I have heard it throughout the years: “Do not talk with your hands.”…."Keep your hands still while speaking.” But talking with my hands for as long as I can remember comes naturally.
I always “talk” with my hands when speaking. Even if my hands may not be saying anything constructive. See post: https://thf-parts-modeling.pixpa.com/toqin-hands-blog/toqin-hands.
The reason behind this advice, not to talk with your hands when speaking, is that our hands, in public speaking, distract from our message or what we have to say.
My hands are a part of my communication style - if you want to call it that. So this advice has always been a challenge to take to heart.
In every communication or public speaking course I've taken in the past, as a part of my critique - practice, not talking with your hands. Or keep your hands still when speaking.
I wonder what my instructors or critics would think about an entire blog dedicated to toqin’ with my hands?
I see it more like the modeling advice given by American supermodel Tyra Banks - “Smile with your eyes” or in her words “smize”. Her number # 1 tip to models from her hit TV show, America's Next Top Model.
So talking with your hands, I guess, has its place too. Maybe not in Public Speaking but perhaps in a niche all its own. Where toqin’ hands and feet are required training ground for the job.
Just a thought coming to mind. What may not fit in one arena just might be the tools needed for a whole other ballgame. So, let's play ball.
This thought comes as I sit looking at poses of different things you can do with your hands and feet. Lookout for some examples coming your way soon….I am getting excited about this.
